First came the <em>Brokeback Mountain <\/em>affair, the final act of which &#8211; a heavily redacted review &#8211; is summarized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmyakin.org\/2006\/01\/brokeback_mount.html\">Jimmy Akin, here.<\/a> (And just a reminder&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmyakin.org\/2006\/01\/brokeback_mount.html\">Victor Morton<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sharedcontent\/dws\/dn\/opinion\/viewpoints\/stories\/DN-brokeback_29edi.ART.State.Edition1.187ff8cd.html\">Rod Dreher, <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.decentfilms.com\/reviews\/brokebackmountain.html\">Steven Greydanus<\/a> have all written at length about this film.)<\/p>\n<p>Next up is Woody Allen&#8217;s new film, <em>Match Point<\/em>, of which Christian critic Jeffry Overstreet writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t expect much from Woody Allen anymore except amoral depictions of infidelity. He seems to have resolved to laugh off the idea of sin and consequences. In fact, <em>Match Point <\/em>is the darkest, most amoral film of his career, basically laughing at anyone who values their conscience.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lookingcloser.blogspot.com\/2006\/01\/match-point-loser-catholic-critic.html\">Overstreet goes on to take apart Forbes&#8217; review of <em>Match Point, <\/em>finishing up by asking the question:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">So, is it now the perspective of the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops that a movie\u2019s perspective \u2014 whether moral or nihilistic \u2014 is something worth noting, but really not all that important? If a film that tells us there is no God, that if we should take a gamble and seize all the pleasure we can grab&#8230; should we go around recommending this title to our friends and neighbors?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Again, bishops: Greydanus and Morton. Tag Team. You could <em>not<\/em> do better.
