Father Isaac Thomas Hecker has begun the canonical journey towards sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church. <\/p>\n

On Thursday October 26, John Duffy and I met with Cardinal Edward Egan at his residence on Madison Avenue. At this meeting we asked the cardinal who as Archbishop of New York has canonical competency, to open a diocesan inquiry into the sanctity of Father Hecker.
