{"id":4848,"date":"2006-11-01T20:26:56","date_gmt":"2006-11-01T20:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2006\/11\/presence.html"},"modified":"2006-11-01T20:26:56","modified_gmt":"2006-11-01T20:26:56","slug":"presence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2006\/11\/presence.html","title":{"rendered":"Presence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawneden.com\/2006\/11\/two-lives-saved.html\">Dawn Eden posts a moving video &#8211; a young woman&#8217;s testimony at a Waco City Council Meeting &#8211; on how sidewalk counselers outside an abortion clinic impacted her life &#8211; and her son&#8217;s.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A long time ago, I was sort of involved on the national level of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feministsforlife.org\/who\/aboutus.htm\">Feminists for Life<\/a> &#8211; we&#8217;re talking 20 years ago, when it was scattered and not as much a presence as it is now and of course, way before the internet, so let&#8217;s just say being a &quot;local chapter coordinator&quot; or whatever I tried to do for a few months was a bit of a challenge.&nbsp; They <em>did <\/em>have their book out &#8211; <em>Pro-Life Feminism<\/em>, which has been reissued in a slightly different form, I believe. Reading that book and meeting women like Rachel McNair, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/comment\/bottcher200311130832.asp\">Rosemary Bottcher<\/a> and others really changed my life &#8211; finding the like-minded tends to do that. <\/p>\n<p>I remember once riding somewhere in a car with Rosemary and a couple of others, and people were talking rhetorical strategy and so forth and&nbsp; Rosemary broke in and said firmly, &quot;It&#8217;s about the babies. We have to keep the focus on the babies always and never let up. Real people are being killed, people who have the right to life.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s what the opposition just doesn&#8217;t understand, for reasons that never fail to mystify me. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
