{"id":4810,"date":"2006-02-08T11:48:57","date_gmt":"2006-02-08T11:48:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2006\/02\/wednesday-is-ga-day.html"},"modified":"2006-02-08T11:48:57","modified_gmt":"2006-02-08T11:48:57","slug":"wednesday-is-ga-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2006\/02\/wednesday-is-ga-day.html","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday is GA day:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asianews.it\/view.php?l=en&amp;art=5333\">As in General Audience:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>May the sacrifice of Fr Andrea Santoro, \u201csilent and courageous servant of the Gospel,\u201d who worked \u201cto bring Christ and the Gospel\u201d to Turkey, contribute to the cause of dialogue between religions and peace among peoples.\u201d&nbsp; This is the prayer raised today by Benedict XVI who, at the end of his general audience, again commemorated the priest killed in Turkey, whose name received a long, standing applause from those attending the general audience.<\/p>\n<p>The Pope revealed, in words spoken off-the-cuff, that he read and was \u201cvery moved\u201d by \u201ca beautiful letter written by Fr Santoro, which is the reflection of his priestly soul\u201d and his \u201clove for Christ and for His Church.\u201d&nbsp; The letter, written last January 31, \u201ctogether with the small Christian community of the <em>Sancta Maria<\/em> parish in Trebzon, is a moving testimony to love and adherence to Christ and His Church.\u201d&nbsp; Along with this letter, which will be published today in the Osservatore Romano, Benedict XVI also said there was another written by the women of the parish, a further testimony to \u201czealous faith and love\u201d put by Fr Andrea into his work.<\/p>\n<p>Already two days ago, in telegrams of condolences, Benedict XVI had expressed the hope that the blood shed by Fr Andrea Santoro \u201cbecome the seed of hope to build true brotherhood among peoples.\u201d&nbsp; In these messages, he defined the slain priest as a \u201ccourageous witness of the Gospel of charity,\u201d who \u201ccarried out in Turkey with generosity and apostolic zeal his ministry in favour of the Gospel and in service to the needy and outcast.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/new.php?n=5954\">More, from CNA:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>During his general audience today, Pope Benedict XVI spoke of God\u2019s special care for those who are poor and defenseless, encouraging faithful to approach the Father \u201cas hungry beggars\u201d, trusting in his promise of intimacy and protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Some 8,000 pilgrims were on hand in the Vatican to hear the Pope\u2019s continuing commentary on the Psalms, today speaking on the second part of Psalm 144, which he titled, &quot;Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.&quot; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">He began by pointing out that the psalmist first focuses his attention &quot;on the love that the Lord reserves, in a special way, for the poor and weak.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">\u201cThis Divine royalty\u201d, he said, \u201cis not arrogant or haughty, as can sometimes happen with the exercise of human power.
