Philip Powell OP&#8217;s exhortation on vocations is worth a listen and\/or a read, definitely.<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/new.php?n=7990\">Boom and bust:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>In the last thirty years more mosques and Muslim prayer centers have been built in France than Catholic churches in the last century.&nbsp; Spanish weekly Alba revealed the statistics last week which, they say, indicate a Muslim boom in a nation historically considered \u201cthe eldest daughter of the Church.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the publication, \u201cimmigration in France has led to a strong growth in the building of mosques and evangelical places of worship, which has been paralleled by the decrease in Catholic churches.&nbsp; France now has more than 1,500 mosques, almost as many as exist in Istanbul, Turkey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The publication also notes that \u201cin that last five years the Catholic Church has built 20 churches, mostly in Paris, Pontoise, and Nice, and 60 churches have been decommissioned.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Links for you from my emailbox and surfing: Christopher Blosser&#8217;s mega-super-gigantic Benedict roundup for October. She attended Knoxville Catholic High School, then the University of Tennessee where she majored in history. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
