{"id":4730,"date":"2006-02-10T10:36:43","date_gmt":"2006-02-10T10:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2006\/02\/pope-to-cdf.html"},"modified":"2006-02-10T10:36:43","modified_gmt":"2006-02-10T10:36:43","slug":"pope-to-cdf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2006\/02\/pope-to-cdf.html","title":{"rendered":"Pope to CDF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/212.77.1.245\/news_services\/press\/vis\/dinamiche\/c0_en.htm\">The Pope addressed the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith this morning:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This morning, Benedict XVI received participants in the plenary assembly of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, telling them that in their service to the entire Church, and in particular to bishops, they must highlight &quot;the centrality of the Catholic faith, in its authentic expression.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>The Pope pointed out how &quot;when the perception of this centrality diminishes, the fabric of ecclesial life also loses its original vivacity and is damaged, decaying into a form of sterile activism or deteriorating into mere worldly political cunning.&quot; Yet, if the truth of faith holds a central position in Christian life, human existence &quot;is revived by a love that knows neither rest nor limit.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Jesus Christ,&quot; the Holy Father went on, &quot;is the Truth made Flesh, Who draws the world to Him. The light radiated by Christ is splendor of truth. All other truths are fragments of the Truth that He is and that leads back to Him. Jesus is the pole star of human freedom, and without Him [that freedom] loses direction, because without knowledge of the truth freedom is distorted and isolated, and is reduced to sterile will.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>Benedict XVI highlighted the fact that Jesus Christ &quot;attracts to Himself all men&#8217;s hearts, opening them and filling them with joy. She attended Knoxville Catholic High School, then the University of Tennessee where she majored in history. She received an MA in Church History from Vanderbilt University, where she wrote a thesis on the changing role of women in 19th century American Protestantism, and the ways Scripture was used to justify those changes. She worked as as a teacher in Catholic high schools and a Parish Director of Religious Education and started writing for the diocesan press - the Florida Catholic - in 1988. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
