Michael’s\u00a0traveling a lot these days, so I’m using his absence as an opportunity to experiment in the kitchen – without having to inflict the perhaps unfortunate results on the poor man.
\nLast week, it was pasta. I’ve had a (manual) pasta maker for years, but never cracked the box open. I’ve never made pasta or even just egg noodles from scratch, and I decided it was time to try – with my soup mania, I thought I should probably attempt a soup with homemade noodles. But then I got sidetracked by the allure of ravioli. A mistake?

\nIt wasn’t that bad.
\nHonest.
\nActually, what Joseph is eating there is a batch of noodles that him himself put through the machine from start to finish, so he has only himself to blame. You can see the ravioli there in front of him. I didn’t have a ravioli shaper thing so I used a biscuit cutter.
\nI really don’t know what to say about them. They weren’t awful, but they weren’t delicious either. The dough was pretty thick – I rolled it as thin as I could without it tearing. I don’t know if I kneaded it too much or if the recipe wasn’t quite right or what. I’m not really hot on trying again any time soon – except for the soup noodles. I will try that. But probably without the machine, just simply rolling and cutting, doing my best Amish\/German\/Northern Indiana housfrau imitation.
