The red hat of Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, despite his age, is more than just a recognition to his diplomatic skills -he was the instrument to establish diplomatic relationships between the Vatican and Israel,- but also to his new role at the head of one of the four major Basilicas, which until very recently was ruled by the Benedictines.
