Religious leaders around the nation and in El Paso are taking a political lead in fighting what they see as a punitive and unfair approach to immigration reform.<\/p>\n

Looking at the possibility that their church could soon be penalized for helping undocumented immigrants, the priest and the parishioners at St. Pius X Catholic Community decided to act.<\/p>\n

Saturday, they climbed to the roof of the church at 1050 N. Clark to hang two large banners from the copper dome. The signs, visible from Interstate 10, say, "Immigrants Welcome — Oppose H.R. 4437."<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
