The school, with grades k-8, opened in August in a converted office park. The property’s purchase and operational expenses are financed independently by the fund-raising efforts of laypeople who wanted to make a Catholic school available to families in the northern part of Gwinnett. It is not supported financially by the archdiocese. The only other Catholic school in the county is in Lilburn.<\/p>\n

After touring the school, consecrating altars in a chapel and in the school auditorium, and celebrating a Mass, Gregory said the growth of Notre Dame Academy is representative of growth in the Catholic population throughout the metro area. In his first year since being appointed to Atlanta, Gregory said he has already participated in the consecration of three new churches.<\/p>\n

The growth also has meant that the demand for Catholic schools has outstripped the supply.<\/p>\n
