Santa Rosa diocese repays some money:<\/a><\/p>\n

The Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa has restored $9.4 million to parishes and schools that lost the money due to mismanagement of a consolidated fund. <\/p>\n

The consolidated fund was set up to pay for things the diocese couldn\u2019t afford and had several contributors. In 1999, after former Bishop Patrick Zeimann resigned amid a sexual misconduct scandal, the diocese discovered Zeimann had been using the fund\u2019s money inappropriately. <\/p>\n

"That consolidated account had been completely depleted to pay for ongoing ministries and services,\u201d said Spokeswoman Deirdre Frontczac. \u201cThis was not anything illicit, it was a question of rating and accounts that didn’t belong to the diocese or the bishop to pay for programs that essentially, the diocese couldn’t afford." <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In Virginia, the estimates rise:<\/a><\/p>\n

State police now say the Rev. Rodney L. Rodis may have stolen more than $1 million from two Louisa County churches. <\/p>\n

The Catholic Diocese of Richmond has previously said Rodis took more than $600,000 from the parishes since 2001.<\/p>\n

Virginia State Police Sgt. Kevin Barrick said yesterday that investigators are still hearing from parishioners whose donations can’t be accounted for yet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n
