Never even read <em>Grendel <\/em>before (David did, in high school, and made a video based on it for a project&#8230;that&#8217;s as close as I got).<br \/>\nBut I picked up the new edition of <em>Nickel Mountain <\/em>on the &#8220;new arrivals&#8221; book at the library, read it, was absorbed and intrigued and fairly dazzled by the language and allusiveness. (More on that later).<br \/>\nAnd now I&#8217;ve just checked out <em>Mickelsson&#8217;s Ghosts <\/em>and <em>October Light. <\/em>I never read single authors in a batch, but I was so intrigued by <em>Nickel Mountain<\/em>, I guess I just want to see more of what was in John Gardner&#8217;s brain.<br \/>\nAny Gardner readers out there?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think I&#8217;m about to go on a John Gardner kick. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
