It was, of course, the DVC talk, put in the context of Catholicism in film. Sort of. I mean, the context was all there at the beginning , but then I sort of let that thread drop as I got into the DVC business. But perhaps not.

Anyway nice crowd. The talk was part of a series sponsored by the The Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture – truly a bright light on campus. Met a lot of great folks for the first time, and was pleased to see some old friends as well. David Solomon, Daniel McInerny and Elizabeth Kirk of the Center, Elizabeth’s husband William, who is in the office of Residence Life. Matt of Shrine of the Holy Whapping, Becky R. of the law school, who comments here and also arranged my visit there last fall, and, unexpectedly (although it shouldn’t have been, since I knew he was now at Notre Dame) – the renowned Internet Padre – whose site you should check out and bookmark.

Not surprisingly, the conversations before and after were not so much about DVC as they were about a certain decision recently made by the ND administration. I think it’s safe to say that the decision not only disappointed many people, but blindsided them. It will be interesting to see how things work themselves out – if this really is the end of the story.

Last night, I spoke at the Catholic institution of the moment, Notre Dame, and no I did not mention body parts or university presidents.
