I imagine it was very impersonal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><strong>Dan DeMatte<\/strong><span>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span>It was very difficult.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>There were days when I could barely find one half hour to pray.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I had to watch what I said because in the back of your mind you don\u2019t want to say anything that would draw negative light to the Church.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>However, I knew that God had a hand in all of this so I accepted it as his will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicreport.org\/?id=178\">Dave also has an interview with one of the priests involved:<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span><strong>Dave Hartline<\/strong><span>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span>Father Jeff, was it difficult working with young men discerning a vocation all the while trying to fit that into a Hollywood production?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span><strong>Father Jeff Coning<\/strong> We did the best we could. The producers were sincere in their efforts and we tried to walk a fine line between discerning a vocation and somehow translating that into television.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><strong>Dave Hartline<\/strong><span>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><span> <\/span>What about the scene where Dan is carrying a cross for many miles.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>What can you tell us about that?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><strong>Father Jeff Coning<\/strong><span>&nbsp; <\/span>Well I<span>&nbsp; <\/span>have gotten beaten up over that.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I am really not an ogre.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>We tried to work with the producers and Dan\u2019s time constraints and this is the best way we could show what carrying a cross means in light of a priestly vocation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><strong>Dave Hartline<\/strong><span>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span>It was certainly a powerful scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><strong>Father Jeff Coning<\/strong> <span>&nbsp; <\/span>I wouldn\u2019t ordinarily recommend something like that but for this situation it worked out best.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">Kudos to Dave for getting these interviews!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All of the episodes aired so far will be re-aired on Sunday, with the final ep to air at 10pm. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
