{"id":2788,"date":"2006-04-22T09:50:43","date_gmt":"2006-04-22T09:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2006\/04\/on-trial.html"},"modified":"2006-04-22T09:50:43","modified_gmt":"2006-04-22T09:50:43","slug":"on-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2006\/04\/on-trial.html","title":{"rendered":"On trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a few days of pre-trial activity and jury selection, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toledoblade.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20060422\/NEWS02\/60422005\">trial of the priest accusing of murdering a nun years ago began yesterday in Toledo.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>After the two sides finished opening statements, the 12 jurors and four alternates were taken by bus to the former hospital, now a college, about 1\u00bd miles from the Lucas County Courthouse where the trial is being held.<\/p>\n<p>They were led on a 40-minute tour of the complex that included stops at the chapel, sacristy, and a small two-room apartment where Father Robinson lived in 1980 when he was Mercy Hospital\u2019s chaplain.<\/p>\n<p>During the tour, court Bailiff Tanya Butler read from a carefully worded script that had been approved by attorneys for both sides, telling jurors to pay attention to certain places and details of the hospital complex without explaining their connections to the case.<\/p>\n<p>The jurors were told, for example, to note the size of two rooms at the end of a hallway, but were not informed that it was where Father Robinson had lived. <\/p>\n<p>They also were guided through the sacristy but were not told that it was where Sister Margaret Ann\u2019s body was found.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.toledoblade.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/frontpage\">Court TV personalities predict (hope for) high interest.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a few days of pre-trial activity and jury selection, the trial of the priest accusing of murdering a nun years ago began yesterday in Toledo. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
