{"id":263,"date":"2007-11-05T09:51:39","date_gmt":"2007-11-05T09:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2007\/11\/breakfast-with-dinesh.html"},"modified":"2007-11-05T09:51:39","modified_gmt":"2007-11-05T09:51:39","slug":"breakfast-with-dinesh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2007\/11\/breakfast-with-dinesh.html","title":{"rendered":"Breakfast with Dinesh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday morning, I rose early &#8211; but luckily it seemed far <em>less <\/em>early because of the time change &#8211; and drove across town to have a quick breakfast with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dineshdsouza.com\/\">Dinesh D&#8217;Souza,<\/a> who was speaking at one of our big megachurches here, called <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dineshdsouza.com\/\">The Chapel. <\/a>Speaking of course, on his most recent book, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dineshdsouza.com\/\"><em>What&#8217;s So Great About Christianity.<\/em> <\/a><br \/>\nIt was great to meet Dinesh, whose first book, <em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Catholic-Classics-Dinesh-DSouza\/dp\/0879735457\">The Catholic Classics,<\/a><\/em> he reminded me, was published waaaaay back when by Our Sunday Visitor.\u00a0 We talked about how this book and his previous book have been received, the experience of debating Christopher Hitchens (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tkc.edu\/debate\/\">the debate can be viewed here.) <\/a>, Richard Dawkins&#8217; refusal to debate him, his sense of how the various Professional Atheists &#8211; Harris, Dawkins, Dennett and Hitchens &#8211; are different, and the kind of responses to this contemporary way of atheism that are called for, and the kind of questions people are asking and trying to find answers for.<br \/>\nAs I said, it was great to meet him &#8211; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/news.aol.com\/newsbloggers\/bloggers\/dinesh-dsouza\">he is blogging at AOL<\/a>, and, well&#8230;.511 comments on a single post? Amy grew up in a number of places - Indiana - Washington, DC - Lubbock Texas - Arlington, Virginia - DeKalb, Illinois - Lawrence, Kansas - and Knoxville, Tennessee, where the family settled in 1973. She attended Knoxville Catholic High School, then the University of Tennessee where she majored in history. She received an MA in Church History from Vanderbilt University, where she wrote a thesis on the changing role of women in 19th century American Protestantism, and the ways Scripture was used to justify those changes. She worked as as a teacher in Catholic high schools and a Parish Director of Religious Education and started writing for the diocesan press - the Florida Catholic - in 1988. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
