Cardinal George took a fall yesterday:<\/a> <\/p>\n

Cardinal Francis George was hospitalized with a slight hip fracture
\nSaturday after he apparently slipped and fell inside a Chicago church
\nwhile blessing Easter baskets, archdiocese officials said.<\/p>\n

\nGeorge, 70, was at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church on the Northwest Side
\nSaturday morning to bless baskets of food for Easter meals and slipped
\non some holy water that had splashed onto the marble floor, said
\nColleen Dolan, spokeswoman for the archdiocese.<\/p>\n

\nUpon falling, the cardinal appeared to land squarely on his hips in a
\nseated position and grimaced in pain. He did not lose consciousness and
\neven continued with the blessing. But shortly after the service, the
\npain in his right hip grew more severe and he was taken to Loyola
\nUniversity Medical Center in Maywood in a private car.<\/p>\n

Though the injury was not serious and did not require surgery,
\nDolan said George would remain hospitalized for a few days of physical
\ntherapy and using a walker, so as not to apply pressure to his hip.<\/p>\n

\n"He took a fall . . . in his exuberance with the holy water," Dolan
\nsaid. "He was concerned when it started to hurt more. That is why he
\nwanted to check, and we’re glad he did."<\/p>\n

\nDolan said the accident came just when  George seemed to have regained his strength. (from his bout with cancer last year) <\/em><\/p>\n
