Russian Patriarch is optimistic:<\/a><\/p>\n

With Benedict XVI, relations between the Orthodox Church and the Vatican will change \u201cfor the better\u201d. The Orthodox patriarch of Moscow and all the Russias, Alexei II, has once again reiterated his great confidence in, and esteem for, this pope who, he is certain, \u201cwill become famous and will be remembered\u201d. However, Alexei II persisted in underlining \u201cexisting difficulties between the two Churches\u201d, repeating that a solution called for \u201cconcrete facts\u201d. Yesterday, in an interview with the Italian press agency ANSA, the patriarch talked about the common challenges facing Catholics and Orthodox in Europe, to which the two Churches must respond with \u201ccloser\u201d collaboration. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
