Should NBC – and now everyone else – have aired the videos of the Virignia Tech killer?<\/p>\n

I don’t think so – you may or may not recall that materials related to the Columbine killers was only gradually released<\/a>, and one thing that has never, to my knowledge, been released, were the videotapes that the two made. They have been transcribed, but the tapes themselves remain locked up. (Dom corrects me in the comments – they have been released. But they certainly weren’t released the day they were discovered.)<\/p>\n

It’s odd to me that there wasn’t even a debate on this one. Even though the material was NBC’s property, couldn’t law enforcement enjoined them from releasing them? And so soon? I’m glad victims’ families pulled out of appearing on NBC today. I wish, in the riot of images that TV news presents to us now – along with the banners and tickers, you must have a minimum of two images on the screen at any time – I wish they didn’t have the need to constantly have Cho’s face up there at all times.  <\/p>\n
