I heard an interesting discussion of it yesterday on Diane Rehm, and for the life of me this is what I can&#8217;t figure out &#8211; the political alliances on this one. It is just the strangest alliance in American history, don&#8217;t you think? Big business and leftists?<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s what I don&#8217;t get. And I will also freely admit that I am not well-versed on the details of the proposals. But what I am picking up is that many people believe that the Bush proposals, for various reasons, will continue to depress wages for those working in the fields dominated by illegals, and that some aspects of the proposals will actually work to keep people in this state of semi-indentured servitude, all in the name of &quot;guest workers.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t understand why leftists are for this.
