A task that was made so much more pleasant today when I, who had been laboring under the impression that I was to produce 40,000 words, actually, you know, looked at the contract and saw that my memory had tricked me by 10,000 – in my favor. So instead of a sprint, I’m on a rather leisurely jaunt, although since it will be two weeks overdue, it probably still should be a sprint. No matter. It’s going well.

I have other things on my mind, though. Katie is taking a big trip this weekend, which will be reported on when it’s over. I’m trying to find a reasonable airfare for my son to come up from Atlanta, the failure of which has me in a perpetual rage against the Fort Wayne "International" Airport, the leadership of which more or less constantly whines about people flying out of Indy or, for pete’s sake, even Dayton, rather than here. Well, when your flights are about THREE HUNDRED BUCKS more than what I can get out of Indy…ya THINK? (Of course, in this case, when you count in the cost of car rental or something like that, the difference shrinks. But in the case of Katie’s group and their trip, (or any case in which you’ve got a group flying) we’re talking a cumulative savings of thousands of dollars….so yeah, they’re leaving Fort Wayne at 2:30 am to catch a 6 am flight out of Indy. Rant over. Till I head back to Kayak.) I have three pamphlets to write. My next two novels – one YA and one adult – keep intruding into my thoughts, nagging me to start writing them. And yes, there is progress on Nothing Else Occurs to Me. Progress and potential future progress that is out of my hands, which is a very weird feeling. Things might happen next week, they might happen in a few months – and of course, they might never happen. You never know. Which is good for one’s spiritual life, and I’m not being sarcastic.

So, my head’s not in Typepad. Apologies.

Oh, and Sir Groundhog/Woodchuck has not reappeared. All that happened on Friday, and our backyard is pretty lively on the weekends, which undoubtedly kept him at a distance, if he’s still around at all. I also utilized a highly sophisticated deterrent – I tied two balloons around stakes around the cucumber plants (the only thing he ate, turning his nose up at peppers, tomatoes, dill, rosemary, basil and green beans.). Which did the trick, at least for now.

I have a BookBlog post I’ve been working on since yesterday that I hope to post tonight. Oh, and check out the comments in the Communion of Saints post below – it’s interesting and helpful to see how folks understand this and role it plays in their spiritual lives.

I am a lame blogger nowadays because I’m finishing a book.
