At the Democrats for Life conference Wednesday, Oklahoma Democratic state legislator Rebecca Hamilton, who has successfully sponsored legislation to restrict abortion, spoke of the arduous role of being a pro-life Democrat. <\/p>\n

She said she\u2019d been \u201cattacked about as much as a human being can be attacked by my party.\u201d <\/p>\n

Recently the Oklahoma Democratic Party state convention narrowly defeated a resolution to censure Hamilton and another anti-abortion Democratic legislator. <\/p>\n

Hamilton has a sense of mission, telling her fellow Democrats for Life at Wednesday’s meeting: \u201cWe\u2019ve got to save the soul of our party because it is in trouble.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe pro-life movement needs very badly, for its own integrity, to have a strong Democratic voice, a strong pro-life voice,\u201d she declared. \u201cThe Democratic Party for its own integrity needs to have a strong pro-life voice.\u201d <\/p>\n

Defining the meaning of ‘progressive’<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/strong>
She even uses one of the trademark words of left-of-center people in her party, \u201cprogressive,\u201d as she says, \u201cTo protect the sanctity of human life, if that isn\u2019t a progressive issue, I don\u2019t know what is.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cThe logical thing for anyone who is a progressive or anyone who\u2019s for human rights, would be to be very strongly in favor of the most important human right of all \u2013 the basic right to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
