Postulator for the cause of Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael McGivney, Father O\u2019Donnell said Benedict\u2019s letter is \u201cless about slowing things down and more about being very careful and precise about the process.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">The Pope\u2019s many years of experience as a cardinal in Rome, serving as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, \u201cmeans that he is attentive to the internal workings of the Roman Curia,\u201d and has the knowledge and ability \u201cto confirm certain directions and make suggestions,\u201d Father O\u2019Donnell said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Among those suggestions is clarifying a widespread misunderstanding in certain cultures as to the nature of a miracle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">\u201cI can\u2019t tell you how many letters I get with regard to Father McGivney of reports of moral miracles,\u201d Father O\u2019Donnell said. A former chaplain for the Knights, according to Father O\u2019Donnell, \u201csaid many times in public that the miracle should be the founding of the Knights of Columbus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">These attitudes stem from a misunderstanding \u201cthat a miracle is something Father McGivney did during his lifetime, rather than something that God does as a sign,\u201d Father O\u2019Donnell continued. \u201cThe meaning of the miracle is to discern the <em>digitus Dei <\/em>(finger of God).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An NCR(egister) article on the Pope and the canonization process: The process of canonization \u201cis really about faith and therefore must be ruled by theological judgments,\u201d according to Dominican Father Gabriel O\u2019Donnell.
