So today begins the 3 Rivers Festival<\/a>, a week or so of various activities around here – overpriced food downtown, rides here and there, and arts festival, has-been musical acts. I bought a very nice piece at the arts festival last year, but durn if I can’t get the inspiration to shell out the 300 bucks or so to get it framed… (it’s sort of big)<\/p>\n

It all begins with a parade. The first year we moved here, I was startled to see that I was in a part of the country in which people still stand when the flag passes by – which in a parade is..frequently.  Just a couple of shots from this morning that struck me:<\/p>\n

First, a peace float:

To those of you living in the Bay Area or something, this is par for the course, but believe me, in Fort Wayne, this is something new – to see a float full of enthusiastic peace activists in a major downtown parade?! And….they were vigorously applauded and cheered.<\/p>\n

(As were the several military groups that were in the parade. And no, they were not placed in close proximity)<\/p>\n

The singer on the float…what was she singing? It wasn’t Imagine<\/em>, I don’t think. But I can’t remember what it was…<\/p>\n

The float from "The Pointe" – a seeker-friendly church that meets at a local movie theater – the float featured Beatles impersonators singing, well, Beatles songs.<\/p>\n
