The House of Bishops voted for her in their election, then the House of Deputies has their own vote.

Most of the Anglican blogs I’m reading are seeing this election as a clear statement to the Anglican Communion. Schori, first of all, is a woman, and would be the first and only woman Primate in the Anglican Communion, which includes provinces that do not even allow female bishops. Secondly, Schori is very, very liberal. She had John Shelby Spong lead her clergy conference two years ago, allows blessings of same-sex unions, and so on. She also has never served as the rector of a parish.

I guess we could call this "gauntlet throwing."

Reactions all over the place – I usually start here. (if the server hasn’t crashed, which it is doing regularly these days due to heavy traffic) And check out Christopher Johnson early and often, as well. And don’t forget old blog friend Captain Yips.

(Another interesting point is that there are 3 Episcopal dioceses in the US that do not ordain women to the priesthood – Fort Worth, TX , San Joaquin, CA and Quincy, IL.
