One of the Bible\u2019s central themes is the relationship between God and human beings. In particular, the text explores the way we communicate with God.<\/p>\n

The conventional term for this type of communication is prayer. It can take many forms and languages. What they all share is the desire to lift our words and thoughts out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHere are some of my favorite verses from the Old Testament on this theme.<\/p>\n

1) \u201cWorship God in joy; come into His Presence in song.\u201d (Psalm 100:2)<\/span><\/p>\n

2) \u201cThe Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, the God of my father, and I will exalt him.\u201d (Exodus 15:2)<\/p>\n

3) I lift up my eyes to the mountains\u2014
\nFrom whence comes my help?
\nMy help comes from the Lord,
\nthe Maker of heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)<\/p>\n

4) \u201cAnd Moses cried unto the Eternal One, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.\u201d (Numbers 12:13)<\/p>\n

5) \u201cYou will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.\u201d (Jeremiah 29:13)<\/p>\n

6) \u201cIf one turns away his ear from hearing My teachings,
\neven his prayer is not heard.\u201d (Proverbs 28:9)<\/p>\n

7) \u201cBless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless Your holy name.\u201d (Psalm 103:1)<\/p>\n

8) \u201cAnd serve Him with all your heart.\u201d (Deuteronomy 11:13)<\/p>\n

9) \u201cThen Abraham spoke up again:’\u201cNow that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes.'” (Genesis 18:27)<\/p>\n

10) \u201cSurely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.\u201d (Psalm 23:6)<\/p>\n
