Zazen has no results. You won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get anything at all out of zazen.<\/p>\n<p>In true dharma there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nothing to gain. In false dharma there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something to gain.<\/p>\n<p>The way of buddha means that there is nothing to seek, nothing to find [<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">mushogu-mushotoku<\/span>]. If there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something to find, no matter how much we practice, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s got nothing to do with the buddha-dharma. If there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nothing to find [<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">mushotoku<\/span>], that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the buddha-dharma.<\/p>\n<p>What\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s zazen good for? Absolutely nothing! This \u00e2\u20ac\u0153good for nothing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d has got to sink into your flesh and bones until you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re truly practicing what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s good for nothing. Until then, your zazen is really good for nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t whine. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t stare into space. Just sit!<\/p>\n<p>Zazen isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like a thermometer where the temperature slowly rises: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Just a little more \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 yeah \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s it! Now, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got satori!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Zazen never becomes anything special, no matter how long you practice. If it becomes something special, you must have a screw lose somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>If we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t watch out, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll start believing that the buddha-dharma is like climbing up a staircase. But it isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like this at all. This very step right now is the one practice which includes all practices, and it is all practices, contained in this one practice.<\/p>\n<p>You want to become a buddha? There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no need to become a buddha! Now is simply now. You are simply you. And tell me, since you want to leave the place where you are,where is it exactly you want to go?<\/p>\n<p>Zazen means just sitting without even thinking of becoming buddha.<\/p>\n<p>In the world, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always about winning or losing, plus or minus. Yet in Zazen, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about nothing. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s good for nothing. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s why it is the greatest and most all-inclusive thing there is.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t achieve satori through practice: practice is satori. Each and every step is the goal. <\/span>                   <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:78%;\"> <\/span>  <\/p>\n<p  style=\"font-family:times new roman;\">\n<p  style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><span>Therefore, we do not discuss intelligence as superior and stupidity as inferior. Let us not choose between clever persons and dull ones.<\/span> <span>If we make effort devotedly, that is just wholehearted pursuit of the truth.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Practice-and-experience is naturally untainted. <\/span>The direction of effort becomes more balanced and constant<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;\" >. <\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">[Nishijima]<\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: times new roman;\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p face=\"times new roman\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><span style=\";font-family:arial;font-size:12;\"  ><span>This being the case, intelligence or lack of it is not an issue; make no distinction between the dull and the sharp-witted.<\/span> <span>If you concentrate your effort single-mindedly, that in itself is wholeheartedly engaging the way.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Practice-realization is naturally undefiled.<\/span> Going forward is, after all, an everyday affair.
