We are<br \/>\nhurting our own 3% of youth who realize that they are gay and want<br \/>\neverything that our society promises them: marriage included.<\/p>\n<p>The American Psychiatric Ass&#8217;n has confirmed that sexual orientation is<br \/>\nnatural, biologically induced, morally neutral, immutable, neither<br \/>\ncontagious nor learned, and has no relation to an individuals ability<br \/>\nto form deep and lasting relationships, to parent children, to work, or<br \/>\nto contribute to society. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the<br \/>\nAmerican Psychological Ass&#8217;n, and the American Psychiatric Ass&#8217;n have<br \/>\nall endorsed civil marriage for same sex couples because marriage<br \/>\nstrengthens the mental and physical health and the longevity of<br \/>\ncouples, and provides greater legal and financial security for<br \/>\nchildren, parents, and seniors. When Americas premier child and mental<br \/>\nhealth associations and their expert panels endorse marriage equality,<br \/>\nthere is thus no ethical reason to discriminate against gay people and<br \/>\ntheir children.<\/p>\n<p>We need to make a place for gays in our faiths just like we have made<br \/>\nfor women, Blacks, red-headeds and left-handeds.
