{"id":50,"date":"2008-12-03T12:49:38","date_gmt":"2008-12-03T12:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/tonyjones\/2008\/12\/memphis-barbque.html"},"modified":"2008-12-03T12:49:38","modified_gmt":"2008-12-03T12:49:38","slug":"memphis-barbque","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/tonyjones\/2008\/12\/memphis-barbque.html","title":{"rendered":"Memphis Bar-B-Que"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I wrote this summer on the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/churchbasementroadshow\/2008\/07\/best-bbq.html\">Church Basement Roadshow<\/a>, every place south of the Mason-Dixon line seems to think that they have the best BBQ.&nbsp; IMHO, Kansas City and Memphis lead the pack (although Texas Brisket deserves a spot in the pantheon).<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, upon arrival, Doug and I went straight to the world renowned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hogsfly.com\/\">Charles Vergo&#8217;s Rendezvous Charcoal Ribs<\/a> in downtown Memphis.&nbsp; The Rendezvous is known for dry-rubbed pork ribs, and they are fantastic.&nbsp; In fact, we liked them so much that we set up a dinner for 100 people there tomorrow night.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be posting updates from <a href=\"http:\/\/thegreatemergence.com\/\">The Great Emergence National Event<\/a>, Thursday through Sunday.&nbsp; Today is mainly taken up with detail work.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, here&#8217;s a shot of my lunch yesterday:<br \/><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ribs.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/198\/import\/ribs.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px;text-align: center\" height=\"800\" width=\"600\" \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I wrote this summer on the Church Basement Roadshow, every place south of the Mason-Dixon line seems to think that they have the best BBQ.&nbsp; IMHO, Kansas City and Memphis lead the pack (although Texas Brisket deserves a spot in the pantheon).
