Money Quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>One unintended consequence of the project has been to highlight the<br \/>\nexistence of two streams in the left-of-center faith world. While these<br \/>\ngroups are not mutually exclusive, they flow from different<br \/>\nsensibilities about public engagement and embody a significantly<br \/>\ndifferent spirit. On the one hand, some of the most vociferous critics<br \/>\nof &#8220;Come Let Us Reason Together&#8221; have been from a loose confederation<br \/>\nof contributors to the recent book <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.religiondispatches.org\/archive\/rdbook\/475\/rdbook%3A_whither_the_religious_left\"><i>Dispatches from the Religious Left<\/i><\/a>,<br \/>\nwho generally portray a more ideological and confrontational public<br \/>\npresence. On the other hand, the research for my own book, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.progressiveandreligious.org\/\"><i>Progressive &amp; Religious<\/i><\/a>&#8211;based<br \/>\non interviews with nearly 100 religious leaders&#8211;identified a broader<br \/>\ngroup of religious progressives who were largely uncomfortable with the<br \/>\n&#8220;religious left&#8221;
