The book is a memoir about the author, Kent Annan&#8217;s, year in Haiti trying to live among the indigenous people. Though it was written before the earthquake, it is a helpful story in trying to understand the complex systems of poverty and degradation alongside having hope for the real and faithful people caught in the web of hardship.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As an aside, I&#8217;d also like to commend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.booksandculture.com\/\">Books and Culture<\/a> to anyone who is interested in a thoughtful Christian perspective on contemporary books, both fiction and non-fiction. It&#8217;s published 6 times a year, and Peter and I both tend to read it cover to cover.
