High School Softball Player Discovers Long-Lost Sister on Opposing Team<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Samantha Rensvold always knew she had a younger biological sister. She just didn\u2019t know where she was, what she looked like or whether they would ever meet.<\/p>\n

Then one day, her sister showed up on the other side of a softball field.<\/p>\n

Rensvold, 19, was playing in a high school softball tournament in Belgrade, Montana, last August when one of her teammates noticed something unusual about a player on the opposing team.<\/p>\n

The girl looked remarkably like Rensvold.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hadn\u2019t seen her close up yet when my teammate was pointing out to me,\u201d Rensvold told People. \u201cI was like, \u2018There\u2019s no way that this would happen to me right now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Rensvold had been adopted as a baby and knew she had a younger biological sister. But because the adoption was closed, she had grown up without knowing where her sister lived or what she looked like.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t approach the other player, Kyann Dean, right away. There was no way to know for certain that the resemblance meant anything.<\/p>\n

Then Rensvold told her adoptive mother what had happened.<\/p>\n

They checked the tournament roster and found Dean\u2019s name \u2014 a name Rensvold\u2019s mother recognized immediately.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mom knew that that\u2019s what my birth mom named her,\u201d Rensvold recalled. \u201cSo my mom was like, \u2018That has to be your sister. That\u2019s not a coincidence.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Rensvold\u2019s mother approached Dean\u2019s family at the tournament, and the families began comparing details. Their adopted daughters shared the same biological mother\u2019s name and had been born at the same hospital.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, a resemblance noticed from across a softball field became something much bigger.<\/p>\n

The sisters finally met on the field, shaking hands and laughing as they tried to take in what had just happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were just freaking out. We were in tears. It was like, \u2018Oh my God,\u2019\u201d Rensvold\u2019s mother told \u201cInside Edition.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Rensvold, it was the answer to a question she had carried for most of her life.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like we didn\u2019t know what to feel because you\u2019ve waited your whole lives for this moment,\u201d she told People.<\/p>\n

The sisters had been adopted by different families and raised hundreds of miles apart in Montana. But after meeting, they discovered that appearance wasn\u2019t the only thing they shared.<\/p>\n

Both played volleyball in high school. Both wore No. 6. Both played the same position. They even have the same \u201clittle giggle,\u201d according to Rensvold.<\/p>\n

Now in college in different states, the sisters are getting the chance to build the relationship they missed growing up. Dean recently visited Rensvold and her family in Spokane, Washington.<\/p>\n

For years, Rensvold could tell people she had a sister. She simply couldn\u2019t tell them much about her.<\/p>\n

That has finally changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut now it\u2019s so nice to be able to put a face to her and to meet her, hang out with her,\u201d Rensvold said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t leave any doubt or wonder in my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of all the softball fields, teams and tournaments where these two young women could have ended up, they somehow found themselves across the diamond from each other.<\/p>\n
