A 34-year-old Army Captain has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to intentionally murdering his unborn child. Capt. Brandon Jones-Adams met a female soldier (who has remained unidentified) in November 2024, beginning a consensual relationship while they were both part of the same battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord\u00a0(JBLM). The relationship continued while the two served a 9-month rotation in South Korea. By May 2025, the soldier was pregnant with Jones-Adams\u2019s child. The two were redeployed to JBLM through June and July.<\/p>\n

However, on August 21, 2025, the soldier was in Jones-Adams home in Puyallup, Washington when she noticed a residue on a cup Jones-Adams had given her to drink from. She immediately suspected Jones-Adams had drugged her with something. Later in the day, she began to experience cramps and went to the JBLM emergency room where she suffered a miscarriage at 13 weeks of pregnancy. She informed hospital staff of her suspicion that Jones-Adams had drugged her.<\/p>\n

An investigation was conducted by the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators found that Jones-Adams had used his phone in several attempts to acquire Mifepristone, a drug that blocks progesterone, which is the hormone required to sustain a pregnancy. They also discovered that Jones-Adams had used a fake name to eventually purchase Mifepristone from a website. When confronted with the evidence, Jones-Adams admitted to putting the pill in the victim\u2019s drink.<\/p>\n

Jones-Adams would go on to make his plea of guilty, including a guilty plea to domestic violence, fraternization, and conduct unbecoming an officer. His 12-year sentence was the longest he could have received according to his plea deal. The military judge also ordered that Jones-Adams be penalized with a\u00a0forfeiture of all pay and allowances and to be dismissed from the Army.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s guilty plea is the result of the exceptional investigative work of Army CID and the dedication of everyone involved in seeking justice. Capt. Jones-Adams\u2019 actions were deliberate, calculated, and malicious. By committing these crimes, he inflicted profound harm on his victim and betrayed the trust placed in him as an Army officer. Today\u2019s sentence holds him accountable for his conduct and provides a measure of justice and closure for those harmed,\u201d said Circuit Chief Lt. Col. Jon Demeter has been charged with first-degree abortion after allegedly ordering mifepristone online and having his then-pregnant girlfriend drink it. She later experienced cramping and miscarried the baby.
