Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles is used to being in the spotlight\u2014but this time, it\u2019s not for his speed on the track. Instead, the decorated athlete is going viral for his reaction to seeing his bride, Junelle Bromfield, in her wedding dress\u2014and the internet has a lot to say.<\/p>\n

The moment happened just minutes before the couple\u2019s April 4 wedding in Trenton, Georgia. In a now-viral clip that\u2019s racked up more than 1.6 million views, Lyles is seen reacting to Bromfield\u2019s bridal look for the first time. But instead of the emotional or glowing response many expect from a groom, his reaction struck viewers as underwhelming.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh wow, okay,\u201d Lyles said with a chuckle as Bromfield appeared in a bejeweled ball gown. He followed it up with, \u201cI didn\u2019t think you would go with a princess dress. Yeah, this is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

That response didn\u2019t sit well with many online. Critics quickly flooded social media with comments questioning his tone and lack of enthusiasm.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid I miss him say, \u2018You look beautiful\u2019?\u201d one commenter asked. Another added, \u201cI just didn\u2019t hear one compliment.\u201d Others went even further, with one writing, \u201cCancel the wedding,\u201d while another admitted, \u201cAs an overthinker, this reaction would ruin my whole day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some viewers said the moment felt like a red flag, especially on such an important day. \u201cHe laughed directly in her face,\u201d one person noted, while another chimed in, \u201cA simple, \u2018You look gorgeous\u2019 would\u2019ve worked.\u201d<\/p>\n

But while the internet rushed to judgment, Bromfield says the reaction was completely misunderstood.<\/p>\n

In a response shared with her followers, the Jamaican Olympian explained that there was much more going on behind the scenes. Several of her close family members were unable to attend the wedding after being denied travel visas to the United States\u2014a disappointment that weighed heavily on her in that moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that moment, that reaction that I got from Noah is exactly what I needed because he tried to make me happy,\u201d Bromfield said.<\/p>\n

According to her, Lyles wasn\u2019t being dismissive\u2014he was trying to lift her spirits. \u201cHe tried to make me talk because if he did not do that, I would probably be shut off that whole wedding because I was processing so much disappointment mentally and emotionally,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Bromfield even said that the details many brides focus on\u2014like her dress, hair, and makeup\u2014felt insignificant compared to the emotional weight she was carrying. \u201cWhat he gave, I truly appreciate,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

She also pushed back on the idea that a single moment should define a relationship. \u201cIf it takes somebody saying that you\u2019re not beautiful to call off an engagement or a marriage, like, [the relationship] wasn\u2019t worth anything,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

While social media may continue to debate the viral clip, Bromfield\u2019s response offers a reminder that not every moment is as simple as it appears online.
