We can be \u2013 must be \u2013 transparent. And God not only tolerates us shooting straight, he honors it. When we know where we stand with him \u2013 as intimate friends \u2013 we can bring all our pains, sorrows, troubles, desires and passions. Friendship welcomes truth. As God\u2019s friends we can pray without reserve. David understood this. Here are verses 2-4 from Psalm 143, one of David\u2019s many \u201chonest-to-God\u201d lyrics.<br \/>\n<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Don\u2019t put your servant on trial,\u2028 <\/em><br \/>\n<em>for no one is innocent before you.\u2028<\/em><br \/>\n<em>My enemy has chased me.\u2028\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He has knocked me to the ground\u2028\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>and forces me to live in darkness like those in the grave.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2028I am losing all hope;\u2028\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I am paralyzed with fear.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Psalm 143:2<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Take a bold step in prayer today. Lay out the honest problems, in all their ugly detail. Your friendship with God allows you this honor. Like David, you may feel like you are \u201closing all hope.\u201d You may be \u201cparalyzed with fear.\u201d Say so! Tell God. He\u2019s your friend!
