{"id":74,"date":"2012-04-11T03:01:23","date_gmt":"2012-04-11T03:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/theroadyoureon\/?p=74"},"modified":"2012-04-11T03:01:23","modified_gmt":"2012-04-11T03:01:23","slug":"professing-the-faith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/theroadyoureon\/2012\/04\/professing-the-faith.html","title":{"rendered":"Professing the Faith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the Easter Vigil this year, the Catholic Church received me into full communion.\u00a0 Along the road to this night, Monsignor Peter Vaghi, pastor of the Church of the Little Flower, met with me over many months to teach me the Catholic faith.\u00a0 As a resource, we read four books he wrote about the pillars of the Catholic Faith.<\/p>\n<p>We began our discussion with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Faith-We-Profess-Catholic\/dp\/1594711771\">The Faith We Profess: A Catholic Guide to the Apostles\u2019 Creed<\/a>.\u00a0 Pope Benedict referred to the Apostle\u2019s Creed as the \u201csummary of everything we believe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/archive\/ccc_css\/archive\/catechism\/credo.htm\">Apostles\u2019 Creed<\/a> has twelve articles (like the twelve disciples) and is broken into three sections on the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Studying the Creed can be intellectual and spiritual.\u00a0 \u201cReligious by nature,\u201d we humans are \u201ccreated to transcend ourselves.\u201d\u00a0 The Apostles\u2019 Creed gives us a view of the transcendent that we seek.<\/p>\n<p>At the Easter Vigil, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ktvzjSx_K4Q\">one particular song<\/a>, based on the \u201clitany of saints,\u201d moved me the most.\u00a0 The singer invokes the heroes of the faith, name by name, asking for their assistance and prayer.<\/p>\n<p>The Apostles\u2019 Creed affirms the belief in the communion of saints as a vital part of the Christian faith. G. K.
