She Did What She Could<\/a>, <\/em>reflects on a familiar story from the Bible and offers new insight on five simple words of Jesus.<\/p>\nJesus and his disciples were talking over dinner when a woman approached him with an alabaster jar of costly perfume, probably her dowry.<\/p>\n
She broke open the jar and anointed Jesus with the perfume.\u00a0 Judas objected to her profligacy: Why wasn\u2019t the perfume sold and the money given to the poor?\u00a0 Other disciples piled on with more criticism.<\/p>\n
Jesus rebuked them. You have the poor with you always, he said, but his time on earth was limited. \u00a0\u201cShe did what she could,\u201d Jesus said.<\/p>\n
Jesus praised the woman for what she did, Morgan points out, not what the woman could have done.\u00a0 Nor did Christ say that she should have done more.\u00a0 He just praised her for what she did.<\/p>\n
She did what she could.\u00a0 Morgan focuses our attention on those five words.<\/p>\n
Jesus honored the woman for doing what she could.<\/p>\n
You might not transform the world overnight, or even over a lifetime.\u00a0 But you don\u2019t need to transform the world.<\/p>\n
