I have been inundated lately by articles about the so-called \u201cMidlife Crisis.\u201d Clearly it is subject very much on the minds of many, many women.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mid Life Crisis: What is it? Is it inevitable? Is it even a real phenomenon? Or is it an invention of the media \u2014 that is, corporate advertising trying to sell us things we don\u2019t need? (Not only do we not need these cosmetic and quasi-medical accoutrements, they are downright insulting and sometimes even dangerous.)\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

These writings cover the gamut of opinions, ideas, and suggestions about coping with a Midlife Crisis, ours or someone else\u2019s. I offer them up to you to for your interest and edification.<\/em><\/p>\n

Why Midlife Rocks Your World – Part 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was speaking today with a wonderful client of mine \u2013 let\u2019s call her \u201cCarol,\u201d who shared a story about her views of midlife BEFORE she had arrived in midlife, and then what happened when her 40\u2019s came.<\/p>\n

She shared,<\/p>\n

It\u2019s funny \u2013 when I was my early 30\u2019s, and I\u2019d hear about someone having a \u2018midlife crisis,\u2019 I\u2019d think to myself, \u201cWow, I don\u2019t really get that.\u00a0 I\u2019m focused, doing what I need to, experiencing success, the kids are good, things are moving along well.\u00a0 I can\u2019t imagine waking up to wanting a whole new life or finding out that what I have I don\u2019t want.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when I turned 43, something happened.\u00a0 I awakened somehow \u2013 after a series of tough events and challenges \u2014 to wanting more, wanting different.\u00a0 It\u2019s like I suddenly saw my whole life differently through the eyes of a middle-ager.\u00a0 The career I spent years rising to the top of, somehow lost its hold on me \u2013 it felt empty and unimportant, silly almost.\u00a0 My relationship with my husband had some serious problems too over the years that took a terrible toll on me, but I never allowed myself to stop and look at that \u2013 I just powered through it all.<\/p>\n

Now that my kids are older and I\u2019m not needed in the same, day-to-day way, I find that I truly want a different life \u2013 a life that\u2019s mine \u2013 based on what I value and what I love.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to just push down what isn\u2019t working.\u00a0 I want to bring it out and resolve it, or let it go.<\/p>\n

I get it now \u2013 a \u201cmidlife crisis\u201d isn\u2019t a clich\u00e9.\u00a0 It\u2019s real and it\u2019s powerful.<\/p>\n

Carol speaks for thousands of folks who\u2019ve awakened in midlife to realizing that what they\u2019ve created in their 20s and 30s just doesn\u2019t fit who they\u2019ve become.<\/p>\n
