Now\u2019s the time for all good women to run for office! Women in power. Women speaking truth to power. Wise women rule wisely!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the Lebanese mountains<br \/>\nTo the Kenyan village of El Doret<br \/>\nWe are practicing self-defense<br \/>\nVersed in Karate, Tai Chi, Judo, and Kung Foo<br \/>\nWe are no longer surrendering to our fate.<br \/>\nNow, we are the ones who walk our girl friends home from school.<br \/>\nAnd we don&#8217;t do it with macho. We do it with cool.<br \/>\nOur mothers are the Pink Sari Gang<br \/>\nFighting off the drunken men<br \/>\nWith rose pointed fingers and sticks in<br \/>\nUttar Pradesh.<br \/>\nThe Peshmerga women<br \/>\nin the Kurdish mountains<br \/>\nwith barrettes in their hair<br \/>\nand AK47&#8217;s instead of pocket books.<br \/>\nWe are not waiting anymore to be taken and retaken.<br \/>\nWe are the Liberian women sitting<br \/>\nin the Africa sun blockading the exits<br \/>\ntil the men figure it out.<br \/>\nWe are the Nigerian women<br \/>\nbabies strapped to out backs<br \/>\noccupying the oil terminals of Chevron.<br \/>\nWe are the women of Kerala<br \/>\nwho refused to let Coca Cola<br \/>\nprivatize our water.<br \/>\nWe are Cindy Sheehan showing up in Crawford without a plan.<br \/>\nWe are all those who forfeited husbands boyfriends and dates<br \/>\nCause we were married to our mission.<br \/>\nWe know love comes from all directions and in many forms.<br \/>\nWe are Malalai who spoke back to the Afghan Loya Jurga<br \/>\nAnd told them they were &#8220;raping warlords&#8221; and<br \/>\nShe kept speaking even when they kept<br \/>\ntrying to blow up her house.<br \/>\nAnd we are Zoya whose radical mother was shot dead when Zoya was only a\u00a0child<br \/>\nso she was fed on revolution which was stronger than milk<br \/>\nAnd we are the ones who kept and loved our babies<br \/>\neven though they have the faces of our rapists.<br \/>\nWe are the girls who stopped cutting ourselves to release the pain<br \/>\nAnd we are the girls who refused to have our clitoris cut<br \/>\nAnd give up our pleasure.<br \/>\nWe are:<br \/>\nRachel Corrie who wouldn&#8217;t couldn&#8217;t move away from the Israeli tank.<br \/>\nAung San Suu Kyi who still smiles after years of not being able to leave her room.<br \/>\nAnne Frank who survives now cause she wrote down her story.<br \/>\nWe are Neda Soltani gunned down by a sniper in the streets of<br \/>\nTehran as she voiced a new freedom and way<br \/>\nAnd we are Asmaa Mahfouz from the April 6th movement in Egypt<br \/>\nWho twittered an uprising.<br \/>\nWe are the women riding the high seas to offer<br \/>\nNeedy women abortions on ships.<br \/>\nWe are women documenting the atrocities<br \/>\nin stadiums with video cameras underneath our Burqas.<br \/>\nWe are seventeen and living for a year in a tree<br \/>\nAnd laying down in the forests to protect wild oaks.<br \/>\nWe are out at sea interrupting the whale murders.<br \/>\nWe are freegans, vegans, trannies<br \/>\nBut mainly we are refusers.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t accept your world<br \/>\nYour rules your wars.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t accept your cruelty and unkindness.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t believe some need to suffer for others to survive<br \/>\nOr that there isn&#8217;t enough to go around<br \/>\nOr that corporations are the only and best economic arrangement<br \/>\nAnd we don&#8217;t hate boys, okay?<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s another bullshit story.<br \/>\nWe are refusers.<br \/>\nBut we crave kissing.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t want to do anything before we&#8217;re ready<br \/>\nbut it could be sooner than you think<br \/>\nand we get to decide<br \/>\nand we are not afraid of what is pulsing through us.<br \/>\nIt makes us alive.<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t deny us, criticize us or infantilize us.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t accept checkpoints, blockades or air raids.<br \/>\nWe are obsessed with learning.<br \/>\nOn the barren Tsunamied beaches of Sri Lanka<br \/>\nIn the desolate and smelly remains<br \/>\nOf the lower ninth<br \/>\nWe want school.<br \/>\nWe want school.<br \/>\nWe want school.<br \/>\nWe know if you plan too long<br \/>\nNothing happens and things get worse and that<br \/>\nMost everything is found in the action<br \/>\nand instinctively we get that the scariest thing<br \/>\nisn&#8217;t dying, but not trying at all.<br \/>\nAnd when we finally have our voice<br \/>\nand come together<br \/>\nwhen we let ourselves gather the knowledge<br \/>\nwhen we stop turning on each other<br \/>\nbut direct our energy towards what matters<br \/>\nwhen we stop worrying about<br \/>\nour skinny ass stomachs or too frizzy hair<br \/>\nor fat thighs<br \/>\nwhen we stop caring about pleasing<br \/>\nand making everyone so incredibly happy \u2013<br \/>\nWe got the Power.<br \/>\nIf<br \/>\nJanis Joplin was nominated the ugliest man on her campus<br \/>\nAnd they sent Angela Davis to jail<br \/>\nIf Simone Weil had manly virtues<br \/>\nAnd Joan of Arc was hysterical<br \/>\nIf Bella Abzug was eminently obnoxious<br \/>\nAnd Ellen Sirleaf Johnson is considered scary<br \/>\nIf Arundhati Roy is totally intimidating<br \/>\nand Rigoberta Menchu is pathologically intense<br \/>\nAnd Julia Butterfly Hill is an extremist freak<br \/>\nCall us hysterical then<br \/>\nFanatical<br \/>\nEccentric<br \/>\nDelusional<br \/>\nIntimidating<br \/>\nEminently obnoxious<br \/>\nMilitant<br \/>\nBitch<br \/>\nFreak<br \/>\nTattoo me<br \/>\nWitch<br \/>\nGive us our broomsticks<br \/>\nAnd potions on the stove<br \/>\nWe are the girls<br \/>\nwho are aren&#8217;t afraid to cook.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Eve Ensler, NY<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Refuser&#8221;
