A single day in April isn\u2019t enough<\/strong>
\nto honor our Mother, save the planet<\/strong>
\nthat is her body, restore her ocean womb,<\/strong>
\nrevitalize the atrophied arms and legs<\/strong>
\nof her continents, remove the smog<\/strong>
\nfrom her pristine lungs, replenish all that\u2019s<\/strong>
\ndepleted by the lust for profit<\/strong>
\nover prosperity. Human hearts so greedy<\/strong>
\nfor commerce they call deforestation progress,<\/strong>
\nthink cloning is a medical advancement,<\/strong>
\nsee artificial life as the wave of the future,<\/strong>
\nas if civilization can only advance<\/strong>
\nby killing or dismemberment,<\/strong>
\nby acquisition or annihilation.<\/strong>
\nHow to survive a world of paper or plastic,<\/strong>
\nhybrid or gas-guzzler,<\/strong>
\ngenetically altered seeds,<\/strong>
\ncloned cows, chemical poisons in the water,<\/strong>
\nrun-off from the mouths of politicians<\/strong>
\nwho think global warming is good for business.<\/strong>
\nWhat\u2019s to be gained when<\/strong>
\nglobalization soils our souls,<\/strong>
\nbreeds a false sense of interconnection,<\/strong>
\nfeigns compassion predicated on<\/strong>
\ncorporate exploitation, skimming money<\/strong>
\noff the backs of underpaid workers,<\/strong>
\ntrafficking in human life, in weapons<\/strong>
\nof destruction, raping the land of its bounty,<\/strong>
\nthe rivers of their life-sustaining powers,<\/strong>
\ndenying whole nations their dignity and worth.<\/strong>
\nThat\u2019s no way to treat our Mother,<\/strong>
\nno way to save our planet,<\/strong>
\nno way to mend our broken spirits,<\/strong>
\nno way to change the world.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
