With the release of HOP and the remake of Arthur, Russell Brand has been busy doing promo work for these films. He is the star of both pictures. He is also a wonderfully talented stand-up comedian, whose quirky and witty banter has enamored audiences for years. What some people may not know is that Russell Brand is in recovery for drug and sex addiction.<\/p>\n

Celebrating 8 years of sobriety, Brand has never been shy about discussing his days of living with an active addiction. In his book \u201cMy Booky Wook\u201d, Brand shares this quote that emulates his amazing sense of humor, combined with a harsh reality of addiction.<\/p>\n

“… And drinking neat liquor from the bottle, with all my long hair and my shirt undone and my beads, not so much the lizard king, more a gecko duchess, I fitted in nicely with their idea of what a creative person should be.” ~Russell Brand \u201cMy Booky Wook\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being honest with the public about his recovery status is a refreshing piece of news to read. After all of the negative talk about celebrities and addiction lately, it is nice to read about an entertainer who has embraced his recovery and is not living a wild and crazy life. In truth, his marriage to Katy Perry and his lifestyle rarely make the headlines of the gossip magazines. In this way, Russell Brand is an example of an individual who suffered with the disease of addiction and managed to become sober, successful and happy.<\/p>\n

While headlines are filled with wild and crazy of behavior those suffering with addiction, the release of two major motion pictures back to back has put the spotlight on a performer who shows a positive reminder that recovery does work.
