{"id":1092,"date":"2016-10-05T16:16:59","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T20:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/thecelebritytherapist\/?p=1092"},"modified":"2016-10-05T16:16:59","modified_gmt":"2016-10-05T20:16:59","slug":"action-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/thecelebritytherapist\/2016\/10\/action-plan.html","title":{"rendered":"Action Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1093\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/243\/2016\/10\/action-plan-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"action plan\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Today I want to do a little something together.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to need a pen and paper, because we are going to write our action plans for the day (if you\u2019re reading this at night, go ahead and do tomorrow\u2019s).<\/p>\n<p>As a codependent, one of the things I tend to do is procrastinate.\u00a0 Some things don\u2019t seem as important, and they go to the bottom of my list.\u00a0 Something as simple as doing the dishes will be left for days, because I live alone and it doesn\u2019t bother me, so why do them?\u00a0 Beyond that, I forget to do things I had planned, or I plan to do too much, and then berate myself for not getting it all accomplished.\u00a0 Making an action plan has helped me remain accountable to myself for the things I want to do, and it helps me adjust my goals if I find that something stays on my plan for more than a few days.\u00a0 When this happens, I look at the task, and see if I can break it into smaller, more completable goals that won\u2019t discourage me.<\/p>\n<p>So, get your pen and paper, and write down all of the things you would like to accomplish today, big or small.\u00a0 Do you need to run an errand, or complete a project at work?\u00a0 Add it to the list!\u00a0 Try to do what you can on it during the day, but remember to be kind to yourself if you don\u2019t complete something &#8211; this isn\u2019t a binding contract!\u00a0 Try to do this for the next three days.\u00a0 After that, check in with yourself.\u00a0 Do you need to break a goal into smaller tasks?\u00a0 Go ahead!\u00a0 As you complete tasks and mark them off of your action plan, give yourself a cheer, because no matter what it is, it was worth accomplishing, and it is worth celebrating.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sherry Gaba, LCSW<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sherry Gaba, LCSW, Radio Host, Certified Transformation Coach and author of\u00a0 the award winning book, The Law of Sobriety:Attracting Positive Energy for a Powerful Recovery and Ecourse www.wakeuprecovery.com. www.sherrygaba.com <\/em><a href=\"mailto:sherry@sgabatherapy.com\"><em>sherry@sgabatherapy.com<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0 Find out if you are #codependent.
