There was often a real humility to the project in the best Job-like fashion&#8211;bold honesty + &#8220;things too wonderful for me to understand.&#8221; KtB helped launch the careers of co-founders <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petermanseau.com\/\">Peter Manseau,<\/a>\u00a0author of the just-released and John Sargent First Novel Prize-nominated <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Songs-Butchers-Daughter-Peter-Manseau\/dp\/1416538704\/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1218168487&amp;sr=1-3\">Songs for the Butcher&#8217;s Daughter<\/a><\/span>, plus the memoir <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Vows-Story-Priest-Nun-Their\/dp\/0743249089\/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1221536175&amp;sr=1-3\">Vows,<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/jeffsharlet.blogspot.com\/\">Jeff Sharlet<\/a>, now a contributing editor for\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Rolling Stone <\/span>and <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Harper&#8217;s<\/span>,\u00a0and the author of <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Jesus-Plus-Nothing-American-Fundamentalisms\/dp\/0060559799\/ref=sr_1_2\/104-7476503-6239920?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1177306866&amp;sr=1-2\">The Family<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(soon to be discussed in this space). And it featured work by some of the best writers working today, including\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephenprothero.com\/\">Stephen Prothero,<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Francine_Prose\">Francine Prose,<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/laurelsnyder.com\/\">Laurel Snyder,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.robwalker.net\/\">Rob Walker<\/a>.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Killing the Buddha is back online, with new editors, new contributors, and a forthcoming anthology of older KtB stuff, entitled <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Believer, Beware<\/span>. (I have an essay in the anthology, I&#8217;m told, so this probably isn&#8217;t the last you&#8217;ll hear about this book!)\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The site looks like it&#8217;s already up to its old ways, in the best sense. <a href=\"http:\/\/killingthebuddha.com\/dispatches\/prothero.obama.htm\">This gorgeous, groping essay about Barak Obama&#8217;s stolen Wall of Jerusalem prayer<\/a> by <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Religious Literacy <\/span>author Stephen Prothero is precisely what makes KtB unique.
