After nearly two decades of marriage, most couples might be expected to share everything\u2014including their bank accounts. But for Jerry O\u2019Connell and Rebecca Romijn, that’s not the case.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview on “Andy Cohen Live,” the Hollywood couple opened up about how they\u2019ve handled money throughout their 18-year marriage. And what they shared might surprise you: they keep their finances completely separate.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe keep our money completely separate,\u201d Romijn said during the interview. Her husband, actor and host Jerry O\u2019Connell, agreed. \u201cI have to say, we actually throttle how much money we put into that account sometimes,\u201d he explained, referring to their shared family bank account.<\/p>\n

Yes, they do share one bank account\u2014but only for family expenses. They call it a \u201ccommunity pot,\u201d and they each contribute to it every few months. The amount each one puts in depends on who\u2019s working more at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one who\u2019s not working gets a little bit of a break, and the one who is working puts in a little more,\u201d Romijn said. \u201cAnd we really tag-team with work.\u201d<\/p>\n

This flexible approach has worked for them, especially since they\u2019ve made parenting a top priority. The couple, who are parents to twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie, both 16, made a commitment early on that one of them would always stay home with the girls.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one else is ever going to raise them besides us,\u201d Romijn shared. That decision to always have one parent home likely made it even more important to figure out a financial system that respected each person\u2019s contributions\u2014both in and out of the workplace.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a practical approach that not every couple would choose, but it speaks to the importance of communication and teamwork. As Romijn put it, this was \u201cone of the first conversations you have when you decide to enter into a legal agreement together.\u201d<\/p>\n

They\u2019re not alone in this strategy. Actress Salma Hayek also revealed in 2024 that she and her billionaire husband, Fran\u00e7ois Henri Pinault, keep their finances separate. \u201cI support a lot of the aspects of my life and myself,\u201d Hayek told WSJ. Magazine. \u201cI have the pressure to make a certain amount of money, and I like it. And now, I decided, I want to make more.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what can Christian couples learn from this? Whether you choose to merge every dollar or keep accounts separate, what matters most is the heart behind the decision. Jerry and Rebecca\u2019s story reminds us that love, trust, and clear communication are key to a strong marriage\u2014no matter how you handle your finances.<\/p>\n
