Weddings are filled with emotions\u2014but for one groom in Brazil, the moment his bride walked down the aisle was literally breathtaking.<\/p>\n

In Salete, Brazil, 25-year-old teacher Gustavo Schmitz fainted at the altar in front of 200 guests after being overwhelmed by the sight of his bride, 23-year-old P\u00e2mela Berto. The unforgettable moment was caught on video and has since gone viral. \u201cWhen my bride walked in \u2014 looking even more stunning than usual \u2014 my body started to go weak,\u201d Schmitz told Jam Press<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What was supposed to be a picture-perfect ceremony quickly turned into a moment of panic when Schmitz keeled over backward, collapsing in front of his bride and the pastor officiating the wedding.<\/p>\n

Leading up to the ceremony, Schmitz said he had been under a lot of stress. \u201cThe week itself was hectic with all the preparations,\u201d he shared. \u201cThe day itself was a rush \u2014 guests already arriving and loads of things to sort out. I was already breathless when things started.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though he takes medication for anxiety, he tried to stay lighthearted and even joked with some of the groomsmen that his body felt \u201ctingling.\u201d But they didn\u2019t think much of it. \u201cThey didn\u2019t believe me because I had a reputation for joking around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Schmitz and Berto had grown up together in their small hometown of just 7,000 people. They were high school sweethearts, and their wedding was a long-awaited celebration of their love story.<\/p>\n

As Berto walked into the ceremony, the emotion hit Schmitz like a wave.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to meet her on the red carpet aisle, and, as the pastor began speaking, I told her I wasn\u2019t feeling well,\u201d he remembered. \u201cI was still joking a bit, so she believed me but didn\u2019t realize how serious it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moments later, he passed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I fainted, she grabbed my suit jacket, but I fell on her dress and she couldn\u2019t hold me up,\u201d Schmitz said. \u201cThe pastor ran over and grabbed my sleeve, stopping me from hitting my head on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thankfully, a friend named Eduardo\u2014who\u2019s also a doctor\u2014was nearby and jumped in to help. \u201cEduardo came quickly, checked my pulse, and gave me first aid together with the pastor,\u201d Schmitz explained.<\/p>\n

He even passed out a second time before finally regaining his strength and finishing the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Despite the dramatic start, Schmitz says the wedding was everything they had hoped for. \u201cIt ended up being beautiful and amazing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
