\u201cHappy Days\u201d star Ron Howard shared why he forbade his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard from acting when she was a child. Bryce recently shared that her father didn\u2019t let her and her siblings follow in his footsteps when they were younger. In an interview with People Magazine, <\/em>Ron Howard, who rose to fame at six years old when he starred in \u201cThe Andy Griffith Show,\u201d shared his thoughts on potential pitfalls that child stars face in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

The \u201dSplash\u201d director said, \u201cIt\u2019s possible for child performers to really find a lot that is positive within it, but it\u2019s fraught with landmines.\u201d Howard\u2019s younger brother, Clint Howard, started acting when he was 2 years old. \u00a0While speaking with People<\/em>, Howard recalled that his parents, Rance and Jean, who were both actors, were aware that they would have to dedicate a lot of time to supervising their young sons on set.<\/p>\n

He noted that his mother took a long hiatus from acting to focus on her sons\u2019 careers. Jean died from heart and respiratory illness in 2000 at the age of 73. In 2017, Rance passed away due to congestive heart failure at age 89. Howard shares Bryce, twin daughters Jocelyn and Paige, 39, and son Reed, 36, with his wife Cheryl, 70, whom he married in 1975. \u00a0The two-time\u00a0Academy Award winner\u00a0told People<\/em> he also feared his children would face \u201cunfair\u201d comparisons to his work as a child star if they entered the entertainment industry in their younger years.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that \u201cThe Andy Griffith Show\u201d was already \u201cmythically significant in TV history\u201d at the time. He said, \u201cOn top of everything else because the characters that I played as a child were so well-known as to almost be iconic. I also thought, \u2018Hey, if one of our kids tries to act as a child, boy or girl, they\u2019re going to be unfairly compared.\u2019\u201d Bryce studied drama at New York University\u2019s Tisch School of the Arts for three years before taking a leave of absence to pursue Broadway acting roles. At the age of 22, she made her career breakthrough when she was cast as the lead in M. Night Shyamalan\u2019s 2004 fantasy thriller\u00a0\u201cThe Village.\u201d<\/p>\n
