Kelly Clarkson recently opened up about her parenting choices in an interview with People. Clarkson, shares two children, River, 9, Remington, 7, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. One rule that Clarkson won’t be changing anytime soon is that her two children aren’t allowed to have social media until they’re 18. \u201cThat can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye,\u201d Clarkson, 41, explains in this week\u2019s cover story. \u201cSo I have informed them they\u2019re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it].\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in 2020 after seven years of marriage. The singer has been open and honest about her experience so far co-parenting, saying that it gets easier with time. “Co-parenting is o different [for everyone]. It\u2019s harder at first,\u201d she says. \u201cThere\u2019s so much emotion and trauma involved.” She continued, “It\u2019s hard enough when you\u2019re married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate. Doing that in different households can be tough.\u201d For now, Clarkson is confident in her decision to keep her children off of social media, even though she is co-parenting. \u201cMy daughter was like, \u2018Well, what if Dad lets me?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, you\u2019re there four days a month. Enjoy that.\u2019 And right now he\u2019s not letting them do it either,\u201d Clarkson says. \u201cI\u2019ll listen when they\u2019re older, but until they have a solid argument, it\u2019s a no.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a mom, Clarkson opened up that she \u201ccan be hard on myself, but I think I do a pretty good job. I\u2019m definitely not a helicopter mom.” She added, \u201cI like that they\u2019re independent, but I\u2019m adamant about my schedule, making sure I\u2019m there as much as I can be. There\u2019s no perfect parent; I\u2019m definitely screwing up my children somehow! But I\u2019m doing my best.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
