Beyonc\u00e9’s fans, affectionately known as the “Bey Hive,” weren’t the only ones who thought her album would win Album of the Year at the Grammys. During a pre-ceremony with Tidal, her husband Jay-Z stood up for his wife and shared the same sentiments.<\/p>\n

The iconic rapper said that Beyonc\u00e9’s critically acclaimed hit, “Renaissance,<\/a>” should take home the award. Unfortunately, Harry Styles’ record, “Harry’s House,<\/a>” won the Grammy. Jay-Z defended his wife’s line of work: “The truth is, we grew up wanting to be on the Grammys, and it was our goal. We just want them to get it right. That’s what we want. Even with Bey, I felt like they missed the moment. Not just ‘Lemonade,’ [but] when Beck won over her. I was like, ‘Oh, y’all missed it.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Jay-Z was referring to the multiple Grammy upsets Beyonc\u00e9 has endured through the years. In 2015, Beck\u2019s \u201cMorning Phase\u201d beat out her self-titled album. Then again in 2017, Adele\u2019s \u201c25\u201d bested Beyonce\u2019s \u201cLemonade\u201d album, on top of other Grammy upsets. Jay-Z said of \u201cRenaissance\u201d to journalist Elliot Wilson, \u201cLook what it\u2019s done to the culture. Look how the energy of the world moved. They play her whole album in the club. I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ve ever seen that. The whole entire joint, like everything? Every remix is amazing. Everyone\u2019s inspired. It has inspired the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jay-Z believed an album that inspired creativity had to be the album of the year. However, the Grammys disagreed and gave Harry Styles the trophy for his record-breaking pop album \u201cHarry\u2019s House,\u201d which he didn\u2019t believe. During his acceptance speech, Styles said, \u201cI think on nights like tonight, it\u2019s important for us to remember there is no such thing as \u2018best\u2019 in music. This doesn\u2019t happen to people like me very often, and this is so, so nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Styles also beat out Adele, ABBA, Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Lizzo, Brandi Carlile and Kendrick Lamar in the category, but Beyonc\u00e9 made history on Grammy night. She ultimately won four trophies, bringing her total Grammy count to 32, making her the most-awarded artist in Grammy history.<\/p>\n

Jay-Z continued in his Tidal interview, \u201cObviously, it\u2019s just music, and it\u2019s all subjective, but you got to be in the ballpark. We grew up watching Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. Stevie Wonder won three out of four years in a row. Come on, man. They got that [expletive] right. It was no politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jay-Z performed the DJ Khaled hit \u201cGod Did\u201d at the Grammys, rapping his entire four-minute verse while sitting at a recreation of Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s \u201cLast Supper.\u201d Despite his wife\u2019s Album of the Year snub, Jay-Z said he enjoyed the ceremony. He also added that he\u2019s likely won some Grammys that he shouldn\u2019t have won and lost some that he should\u2019ve won, but that\u2019s the way it goes.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s nothing wrong with a husband defending his wife and her accomplishments. With her line of work, Jay-Z believes that his wife should\u2019ve won Album of the Year at least once during her career. Hopefully, the Grammys will get it right one day and give\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9 the recognition she deserves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
