The idea of working with David Foster was music to Katharine McPhee\u2019s ears. The couple, married since 2019, have been enjoying their time together, doting on their son Rennie, whom they welcomed in February last year. But now, the pair have teamed up for another collaboration.<\/p>\n

On November 25, the duo\u00a0will release their first album together, \u201cChristmas Songs,\u201d a seven-track record of reimagined holiday tunes featuring a big band sound. \u201cDavid and I met when I was a contestant on \u2018American Idol,\u2019 which was about 17-18 years ago,\u201d the 38-year-old said about her spouse, 73.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been colleagues long before we were in a relationship together,\u201d McPhee shared. \u201cThen we became friends. So I\u2019m very accustomed to being on stage with him, sharing a stage with him, being in the recording studio with him. That was first before anything. That\u2019s where we\u2019re the most comfortable together. It doesn\u2019t create any friction between us at all. There\u2019s no kind of unknown between us. That\u2019s where it all started for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

McPhee and Foster began dating back in 2017.\u00a0The \u201cSmash\u201d alum<\/a>\u00a0previously noted that the record producer threw a Christmas party to impress her and her friends. McPhee shared that their idea of keeping the spark alive as busy parents has gotten \u201creally simple\u201d over the years \u2013 and she would not have it any other way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just love being able to go to a movie and have dinner together,\u201d said McPhee. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing extravagant about what we like to do. We just want to reconnect. I love to just sit and have dinner with him. I\u2019ll have a glass of wine \u2013 he doesn\u2019t drink. And we just talk. That\u2019s our time together that we always make sure to have. We have a very hectic schedule, so that\u2019s really important to us to carve out that time each day. And there\u2019s always something to talk about whether it\u2019s our family, our son \u2013 it\u2019s our time.\u201d<\/p>\n

McPhee said the quality time she and Foster shared at the studio bonding over Christmas songs brought them even closer together. \u201cI\u2019m always marveling at his ability to have an idea in [his] head and manifest it into something,\u201d she explained. \u201cWorking with David is the best because he knows exactly what he wants, what he needs from you. Being his wife and also his fan before we were even married, I have an immense respect for him. And it\u2019s been so much fun. We had the summer together and thought about just releasing a few songs on social platforms, but the idea turned into so much more.\u201d<\/p>\n

McPhee insisted that her son is already showing off his musical talents. Time will tell if he goes on to pursue the family business, but the star said she already knows the piece of advice Foster will give on pursuing the music industry. McPhee says that Foster will tell their son that he\u2019s the only one that can figure things out for himself.<\/p>\n
