Congratulations are in order for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., who\u00a0celebrated\u00a0<\/a>20 years of marriage recently.<\/p>\n

The \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer\u201d\u00a0actress<\/a>\u00a0noted the day on Instagram and shared a few photos of the couple. Gellar also joked to Howard Stern, who asked Prinze Jr. more than 20 years ago \u201cif he \u2018will marry Sarah Michelle Gellar even though you know that it won\u2019t last?\u201d (Prinze Jr. told Stern it would.)<\/p>\n

Stern then bet him that the marriage wouldn\u2019t last 10 years. \u201cYou\u2019re gonna hunt me down and go, \u201cHoward, I owe you money,\u201d \u2018Stern said at the time. The two\u00a0actors<\/a>\u00a0met while filming \u201cI Know What You Did Last Summer\u201d in 1997 and started dating in 2000. In March 2021, the couple told PEOPLE<\/em> they had been friends for a while before going on a dinner date together. The dynamic of their relationship shifted after that evening.<\/p>\n

Gellar said, \u201cWe\u2019ve had many dinners before. We were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person didn\u2019t make it out, and we decided to still go. We were just two people at dinner catching up. We had a long car ride and a long dinner, and things just happened.\u201d Prinze added that he didn\u2019t want to be with anyone else after that night. A year later, the couple got engaged. Prinze continued, \u201cI didn\u2019t go on dates with other girls, nor did I even want to pursue dates with other girls,\u201d he said. \u201cOne day, I just knew we were going to get married and that I was going to propose. I didn\u2019t know when or how.\u201d<\/p>\n
